For me, and for all of us at the Centro Studi Platone, Nepal is home; a home deeply loved and respected, precisely because of the great dignity of the Nepalese people. I would be heartbroken for any place in the world struck by tragedy, but here I know how to act.
We will strive to get aid to where it is needed as quickly as possible, and the need is immense. The flood struck with incredible, concentrated power, hitting like one single, massive wave that tore apart and crushed everything in its path.
The people are poor, desperately poor, and, quite apart from the injured, they lack the means to get back on their feet.
I was in India during the 2004 tsunami; that memory is indelible. Yet, beyond the grief and shock over the plight of so many desperate people, I was equally appalled by the indifference shown by far too many others.
Please send your donations; I will ensure they go directly to the people on the ground, without question.
Heartfelt thanks.
